Celebrating Purple Tuesday at Battersea Power Station 💜

This week, Battersea Power Station was proud to join forces with TEAM LEWIS to celebrate #PurpleTuesday, a global movement dedicated to improving the customer experience for disabled people. The event brought together our retailers, residents, staff, and community partners to learn, share, and take meaningful action towards creating an environment where everyone feels welcome.

The day began with an uplifting performance by The Music Man Project, whose infectious energy and enthusiasm set the perfect tone for an inspiring and inclusive day. We were honoured to be joined by Tom Pursglove, former Minister of State for Social Security and Disability, who spoke passionately about the importance of accessibility and the real difference that initiatives like Purple Tuesday can make in people’s everyday lives.

Samuel Dean, CEO of Team Lewis, then moderated a series of engaging panel discussions that explored vital topics such as supporting inclusive communities and fostering inclusion in the workplace. Panellists represented a diverse range of organisations and charities — including Convo, Sight Loss Council, Down Syndrome UK, and more — each sharing their own lived experiences, practical advice, and ideas for driving positive change. These conversations were a powerful reminder that accessibility isn’t just about infrastructure, but about people, empathy, and everyday actions.

Accessibility is something we’re passionate about at Battersea Power Station — not just on Purple Tuesday, but every day of the year. Our Guest Services team plays a key role in making sure everyone can enjoy all that the Power Station has to offer. We provide a range of accessible services including step-free access across the estate, accessible parking spaces, Changing Places facilities, wheelchair and mobility scooter loans, hidden disability Sunflower Lanyards, sensory backpacks and assistance dogs welcomed throughout. Our team also offers personalised support for visitors who may need extra assistance through our WelcoME platform allowing guests to plan their visit ahead.

As the event came to a close, attendees were treated to a trip up The Chimney Lift Experience, where everyone not only enjoyed stunning panoramic views across London but also gave positive and constructive feedback for the experience. The evening ended with a special moment as we illuminated our iconic chimneys in purple, a striking symbol of our commitment to accessibility and our support for the Purple Tuesday movement.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us, to the inspiring speakers and performers who made the day unforgettable, and to the Purple Tuesday team for leading this important global initiative. Together, we’re proud to continue building a more accessible and inclusive future for all who visit Battersea Power Station.
