Battersea Power Station and global events and entertainment leader, IMG, today announces that the eagerly anticipated chimney lift experience will be named LIFT 109 and that early access to tickets will be available via an exclusive pre-sale to those who register from today at www.lift109.co.uk.

LIFT 109 is set to become one of the most unique experiences in London combining an exhibition space housed in the Power Station’s Art Deco Turbine Hall A with a glass elevator ascent to the top of the Grade II* listed building’s north-west chimney – reaching a stunning viewpoint 109 metres above ground.

The experience will begin with an interactive multimedia exhibition where guests will gain an insight into Battersea Power Station’s rich heritage, its architectural significance and its enduring presence in popular culture. Paying homage to the Power Station’s industrial past of providing one-fifth of London’s electricity at its peak, the exhibition features immersive mechanical displays and light installations created to mimic electricity generation.

Guests will then enter the glass elevator and upon reaching the top of the north-west chimney will be treated to unrivalled 360-degree panoramic views of London’s stunning skyline along with a very special bird’s eye view of the historic landmark that is Battersea Power Station.

Once the lift has made its way back to the ground, guests will be able to browse the curated LIFT 109 Shop and purchase a keepsake of their visit.

The Grade II* listed building’s first two chimneys were built in the 1930s, with the fourth and final chimney completed in the 1950s. After many years of service, Battersea Power Station’s four iconic chimneys underwent a painstaking restoration between 2015 and 2017, when they were reconstructed using the exact same methods utilised in the original build more than 60 years ago.

Dan Westley, Leasing Director at Battersea Power Station Development Company (BPSDC), said:

“LIFT 109 will be a truly one-of-a kind attraction, where else can you travel to the to the top of one of the most iconic chimneys in the world in a glass elevator. It really is the cherry on top of the cake for our redevelopment, cementing our status as London’s newest visitor destination, once the Grade II* listed building opens its doors to the public from this Autumn. We are looking forward to welcoming the first LIFT 109 passengers and would encourage people to get registering.”

Stephen Flint Wood, EVP and Managing Director of Arts & Entertainment Events at IMG added:

“IMG is delighted to be working with Battersea Power Station to bring this amazing new attraction to life. LIFT 109 will offer unparalleled views of London, as well as an interactive insight into the energy behind the icon. This immersive new exhibition and unique viewing platform will attract visitors to the Power Station from across London, the UK and the rest of the world.”

Opening from Autumn 2022, Battersea Power Station will become the centrepiece of a new ‘15-minute’ live, work and play neighbourhood, which will act as a new hub for the local and wider communities, a new business quarter for the capital and a retail and leisure destination for Londoners and international visitors. The Power Station will be home to 254 residential apartments, over 100 retail shops, restaurants and cafés, including a unique c. 24,000 sq ft food hall concept, cinema, offices and event spaces.
