Accessibility is about more than simply meeting requirements. It is about understanding the different needs of our visitors and making small, meaningful changes to make everyone feel comfortable and welcome when visiting Battersea Power Station.
This month, we are pleased to share that we have introduced Stoma Friendly facilities in the accessible toilets across our riverside neighbourhood.
Did you know?
More than 200,000 people in the UK live with a stoma, yet many face challenges accessing the right facilities when visiting public places Simple features such as a stoma shelf, full-length mirror, disposal bin and coat hook can make accessible toilets more clean, safe, and practical for those who rely on them.
Our accessible toilets across Battersea Power Station already met most of the criteria for Colostomy UK’s Stoma Friendly initiative. The key addition was a dedicated shelf by our mirrors, providing a clean and convenient place for visitors to safely place their stoma supplies while changing their bag.
The change is simple, but can make a huge change to our visitors.
Working together to make a difference
“Making spaces and places accessible for all creates the inclusive environment we want for our stakeholders, visitors, and colleagues. That’s what the Battersea Spirit is all about: creating a place where everyone can belong, contribute, and succeed.”
Ben Burrows, OCS Estate Senior Contract Lead
Joining the Stoma Friendly initiative
With the shelves now installed, Battersea Power Station has joined the Stoma Friendly initiative in partnership with Colostomy UK, demonstrating our commitment to supporting visitors who live with a stoma.

For many people living with a stoma, accessibility needs may not be immediately visible. This is why our work to support those with hidden disabilities is equally important. As part of our commitment to accessibility and inclusion, we are always looking for ways to remove barriers also that every visitor can enjoy everything Battersea Power Station with confidence, comfort and dignity.
“We’re delighted to see Battersea Power Station become Stoma Friendly. For people living with a stoma, having the right facilities can make a real difference to whether they feel confident getting out and about. Simple changes such as adding a shelf, hook, mirror, disposal bin, and Stoma Friendly signage can remove barriers and make public spaces far more accessible. We hope Battersea Power Station’s commitment encourages more venues across the UK to look at what they can do too.”

We are also proud to support World Ostomy Day and participate in the 2026 Stoma Aware Day Campaign on 3 October 2026. This year’s campaign, Stomas Unlocked, aims to create a future where people living with a stoma feel understood, supported and empowered.
A small shelf may seem like a simple addition, but for someone who needs it, it can make a real difference. We continue to work together to make this improvement and more as part of our ongoing commitment to building an even more accessible and inclusive Battersea Power Station for everyone.
