Battersea Power Station Teams Support Dementia Action Week by Becoming Dementia Friends

During the month of May, Battersea Power Station’s Guest Services and Security Team have been getting involved in Dementia Action Week by signing up to become Dementia Friends. This supports the national campaign taking place from 19–25 May 2026, created by the Alzheimer’s Society to raise awareness, encourage understanding, and inspire action to improve the lives of people living with dementia.

The Dementia Friends initiative has been developed by the Alzheimer’s Society to help people better understand dementia and learn practical ways to support those affected.

Dementia Friends sessions focus on increasing awareness through key messages that can make a real difference in everyday interactions. These include understanding that:

  • Dementia is not a natural part of ageing

  • Dementia is caused by diseases of the brain

  • Dementia is not just about memory loss

  • It is possible to live well with dementia

  • Small actions can make a big difference

By learning these five key points, Battersea Power Station’s Guest Services and Security teams are enhancing their ability to support visitors, colleagues, and members of the public who may be living with dementia or caring for someone who is.

As one of London’s most popular destinations, Battersea Power Station welcomes millions of visitors each year. Providing a safe, welcoming, and inclusive experience for every guest is at the heart of its mission. Through Dementia Friends training, teams are strengthening their confidence in offering compassionate assistance and helping create a more dementia-friendly environment.

This initiative reflects Battersea Power Station’s continued commitment to accessibility, inclusion, and community engagement. By investing in staff education and awareness, the destination is helping to break down stigma while fostering greater understanding.

To find out more and register to become a Dementia Friend, sign up through the Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Friends website, watch a short online information session or attend a local session, and pledge a small action to help support people living with dementia. Once completed, you’ll receive your Dementia Friends badge and pin as a symbol of your commitment to creating a more dementia-friendly society.
