BPS Donates over 480 Books to Local School for Appeal

For a fourth year in a row, the ‘Give a Book for Christmas’ appeal will ensure local school children go home with a present this festive season

Battersea Power Station’s annual ‘Give a Book for Christmas’ appeal has returned for a fourth year and with the aim of sending each pupil at Chesterton Primary School in Battersea home with a present this festive season, members of the public were also encouraged to get involved and donate to the appeal.

With donations received from BPSDC staff, Sir Robert McAlpine employees, the lead contractor for Phase 3 of the 42-acre Battersea Power Station regeneration project, and members of the public, over 480 children’s books have been donated to the local primary school this Christmas.

Whitney Shore, Deputy Head Teacher at Chesterton Primary School, said:

“Early reading and reading for pleasure are something we value at Chesterton. We are so grateful for the generosity of the Battersea Power Station Development Company for their donation of 480 high quality books, ensuring every child at Chesterton can continue to develop their love of reading at home. We are touched by the community spirit and cannot wait to continue working together in the future to support the young people of Battersea.”

Alex Baker, Director of Communities and Sustainability at Battersea Power Station Development Company, said: 

“The ‘Give a Book for Christmas’ appeal is a great initiative, which all of us at Battersea Power Station are pleased to support each year. With the uncertainty faced by schools throughout 2021 due to the pandemic, coming together as a community has never been more important, which is why we opened the appeal up to members of the public this year. Thanks to their support and donations made by Sir Robert McAlpine and Battersea Power Station employees, we are delighted to have been able to send each pupil at Chesterton Primary School home with a present this Christmas.”

Battersea Power Station has also made donations to local organisations to support them during festive season. These include local organisations Future Men, The Venue Community Centre, Nine Elms Arts Ministry, Girlguiding London South West, and St Mary’s Church, Battersea.
