Representatives of many London-based charitable foundations came together today at The Village Hall at Battersea Power Station to find out more about the implications of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which comes into force from 25 May 2018.

The event was run in partnership by the Battersea Power Station Foundation and Stone King LLP, one of the leading law firms for charities in the UK. It was designed to inform charitable foundations, particularly grant makers, about the practical steps they should be taking ahead of the GDPR’s implementation.

Speakers included Vicki Bowles, Head of Knowledge Management at Stone King LLP, Kevin McLoughlin, Information Security Consultant, Emma Hutchins, Policy and Communications Officer at the Association of Charitable Foundations and Barbra Mazur, Director at Battersea Power Station Foundation.

Barbra Mazur, Director of the Battersea Power Station Foundation, said:

“We fund projects in Wandsworth and Lambeth that have a real impact on our neighbourhood and help organisations provide good opportunities to the local community.

“”The GDPR has important implications for charitable foundations like ours, and we are glad to have been able to help grant makers understand the implications of the new law by hosting this event today in partnership with Stone King.”

Vicki Bowles, Head of Knowledge Management at Stone King LLP, said:

“GDPR is a complex subject, and its generic approach means that it can be very difficult for specific sectors to navigate the rules and how they apply to their individual situations.

“”At Stone King, we are delighted to be able to share our knowledge with Charitable Foundations in a way that is tailored to their specific circumstances, and to give practical, realistic advice on how to become compliant.”

Sime Darby Property, S P Setia and the Employees’ Provident Fund are the shareholders of the Battersea Power Station project. They are committed to giving back to the communities in which they operate, and it is their investment which makes the work of the Battersea Power Station Foundation possible.
