Battersea Power Station Donates to Local School

Battersea Power Station Development Company has donated over 200 children’s books to a local school in Battersea as part of a special Christmas appeal supported by local MP, Marsha de Cordova.

De Cordova joined representatives from Battersea Power Station at St John Bosco College this week, where they presented a class with the books as part of the ‘Give a Book for Christmas’ appeal. The initiative was launched by the College to ensure that all Year 7 and 8 students would be able to go home with a reading book this Christmas.

Staff, constructions workers and associated teams working on the 42-acre regeneration project, including Sir Robert McAlpine, came together to create the collection of books, which range from children’s classics to family favourites.

Marsha de Cordova, MP for Battersea, said: “Access to reading materials is so important for young people. Books offer new worlds to be explored, adventures to be taken, and histories to be learnt. I was delighted to join young people at St John Bosco College and to see their enthusiasm for reading. This fantastic initiative means that their students will have a great book to enjoy this Christmas.”

Simon Murphy, CEO of Battersea Power Station Development Company (BPSDC), said: “The ‘Give a Book for Christmas’ appeal is a fantastic initiative and one that all of us at Battersea Power Station are delighted to support. We are committed to supporting our local community and are proud to have been able to ensure that all the Year 7 and 8 pupils at St John Bosco College will go home with a good book to read over the winter break.”

Paul Dunne, Headteacher of St John Bosco College, said: “The gift of reading is a precious thing and we are very grateful to Battersea Power Station for their wonderful support and generosity. Our pupils were delighted to receive their books and thrilled to be getting an early Christmas present!”
