BATTERSEA ACADEMY FOR SKILLS & EMPLOYMENT

Over 17,000 new jobs will be created through the regeneration of Battersea Power Station. To ensure local people are best placed to access these jobs, the Battersea Academy for Skills & Employment (BASE) was set up by the shareholders.

Launched in 2016, BASE works in partnership with the local authority, Wandsworth Work Match, community organisations and job programmes to match local people to jobs at Battersea. In addition to work-matching services, BASE provides job-seekers training and support.

“I made an application via the BASE website, had a screening interview followed by a full interview, and within three days I was employed! I see myself developing here because the opportunity is huge.”

James, Aftercare Manager, Battersea Estate Management

CONSTRUCTION JOBS

There are over 3,000 construction workers on site, with vacancies ranging from apprenticeships to skilled and unskilled construction work.

An onsite training and CSCS Test Centre has been set up where both site workers and locals can access free training and take the test to get their CSCS card (the card required to work on a construction site).

“For someone in year 12 or 13 at school, I took a risk going for an apprenticeship because I didn’t know what the world of work was truly like, but it was worth it, because I am gaining both experience and knowledge through my degree apprenticeship.”

Marisia, Apprentice Civil Engineer, Mace
