Light Festival at Battersea Power Station

Brighten up the dark, winter evenings with a visit to Battersea Power Station's first Light Festival! It is free to the public, so the perfect antidote for the winter blues!

Four spectacular installations from international artists will be on display for the first time in the UK from 8th January - 16th February 2020. The light installations have been commissioned by Light Art Collection, the experts behind the Amsterdam Light Festival.

The four light installations on display include:

Action Reaction 2.0 by Sjimme Veenhuis

Through this piece, Veenhuis demonstrates how refreshing it can be to give something like a button, which is ultimately a ‘mediator’ between us and all kinds of technology, a different meaning. The installation consists of a large screen with a thousand buttons that after being pressed light up in a variety of different colours like single pixels. An interactive piece, visitors are invited to make patterns by themselves or together.

Talking Heads by Viktor Vicsek

These two spectacular heads created by Hungarian light artist Viktor Vicsek show countless emotions and react to each other. Unlike people, these Talking Heads don’t do it by means of muscle but through the possibilities of light. Per head approximately 4000 individually controllable LEDs create different facial expressions in various colours.

Eternal Sundown by Mads Vegas

Eternal Sundown is performed by light designer Mads Vegas, and consists of approximately140 filtered fluorescent tubes. Originally made for Copenhagen Light Festival 2018 and 2019, the artwork maintains an abstract sunset colour spectrum from sunset to dawn, spreads joy and reminds people that much needed sunlight soon returns. Eternal Sundown will be bringing light to our historic Grade II*-listed Coaling Jetty.

This Is It, Be Here Now by Tropism Art & Science Collective

An interactive neon sign, This Is It, Be Here Now, flashes, crackles and sparkles. First shown at the Amsterdam Light Festival 2014/2015, the artwork encourages visitors to come closer with its bright colours, provoking message and loud rustling noises.
