Space for Independent start ups

Local businesses and creative entrepreneurs from across the capital are being given the opportunity to showcase their wares rent-free at Battersea Power Station as part of a programme of purpose-designed retail spaces at the main entrance to Circus West Village.

Available from September 7th to December 24th, independent creative brands and designer-maker businesses from both the local community and across the city’s thriving industries will be able to use the spaces alongside partnerships with larger cultural brands, as part of the evolving curation of this iconic site. The units will benefit from the thousands of people who will pass at Grosvenor Arch.

These studio spaces will form part of the emerging community at Battersea Power Station alongside independent restaurants and a curated programme of activities that take place every weekend on the riverside in front of the Power Station.  The development has a link directly along the river to Battersea Park, which attracts 20 – 30 million visitors annually, many of whom are local and young professionals and young families, as well as a large fitness community.

In addition, from this Autumn, even more people will also be able to visit via the River Bus with a new dedicated pier at Battersea Power Station.

This flexible, dynamic, evolving showcase combines individual and shared units. Tenant invitations are based on an open call-out, pitch and themed programming process, strategically steered by the curation team at Battersea Power Station.

Rob Tincknell, CEO of Battersea Power Station Development Company, said: “We want to support a new generation of creative people and are seeking young, independent commercial businesses that are making products and stories across design, art, craft, fashion, publishing, new tech and beyond.

“The spaces will initially be offered rent free and we have started reaching out to the local community, businesses and creative networks across the city. Initially, the spaces will be available from Thursday to Sunday each week, and the tenancies will rotate regularly to showcase a range of creative ideas across the season.  I love the idea that when the office spaces in the Power Station are complete, we will have some of the biggest businesses in the world working alongside start up businesses with just one employee.”

Wandsworth Council leader Ravi Govindia said: “Wandsworth is home to some incredibly exciting and creative start-ups and this is a great opportunity for them to showcase their work at an iconic London venue. This is just one of the ways local traders are benefitting from the new commercial hub taking shape at Battersea Power Station and I encourage our small business community to take full advantage.”

For the chance to join this programme, email our curation team at popup@bpsdc.co.uk and send us a quick introduction (1 x A4 pdf) about what you do, what you make, and what you would like to bring to this new creative destination. We would love to hear your ideas, and will then send you more details, to see how we might support and invite you to become part of this iconic London story.
