Bps Welcomes the New High Commissioner of Malaysia

Malaysia’s new High Commissioner to the UK, H.E. Datuk Mohamad Sadik Kethergany, visited Battersea Power Station in Central London on Friday to witness the significant progress that is being made on this iconic regeneration project. This was his first visit to Battersea Power Station since taking up the role in April 2019 and was greeted by Simon Murphy, Chief Executive Officer, M Shahrul Azri Mamat, Chief Strategic Relations Officer and Gordon Adams, Head of Planning and Public Affairs at Battersea Power Station Development Company (BPSDC).

The Battersea Power Station development is owned by a consortium of Malaysian investors comprised of S P Setia, Sime Darby Property and The Employees’ Provident Fund. The commercial assets within the Power Station building are now directly owned by Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB) and EPF following an acquisition completed earlier this year representing one of the largest real estate transactions in the UK.

As well as receiving an update on the wider development, H.E. Datuk Mohamad Sadik Kethergany, was also given a tour of Circus West Village, the first phase of the Battersea Power Station project to open, which is home to a wide range of shops, restaurants, an events space, over 1,000 residents and has seen over two million visitors in the past year. H.E. Datuk also visited the brand-new marketing suite which opened a couple of weeks ago and features a Xm high interactive model of the Power Station.

H.E. Datuk Mohamad Sadik Kethergany, Malaysia’s High Commissioner, said:

“It was a real pleasure to visit Battersea Power Station and see the immense effort that is going into restoring such a global icon. It is evident that a truly-breathtaking place, which embraces heritage and community, is being formed and will certainly instill pride back home in Malaysia.

“It is exemplary work by a consortium of Malaysian companies that combine resources to venture investments across the globe.”

Simon Murphy, CEO of Battersea Power Station Development Company (BPSDC), said:

“It was an honour to welcome H.E. Datuk Mohamad Sadik Kethergany to the Battersea Power Station project which, without the unwavering support of our Malaysian shareholders, would not be being brought back to life. We are working hard to restore this iconic building and deliver a new part of London that Malaysia will be proud of for generations to come.

“Along with Circus West Village already thriving, there is real momentum on the transformation of the Power Station and the Frank Gehry and Foster + Partners designed buildings positioned in the third phase. Ensuring not only that we are good developers, but also that we are “Good Citizens of London” has always been important to both us and our shareholders and we undertake a broad range of initiatives in support of this aim.

“We look forward to welcoming H.E. Datuk back soon to this truly unique neighbourhood that Malaysia has invested in.”

Once completed, the restored Grade II* listed Power Station building will include over 250 apartments, over 500,000 sq ft of office space that will become Apple’s new London Campus and business member’s club, No18. There will also be over 100 shops, restaurants and cafes as well as new events space for London. The Power Station will open to the public in 2021 and is at the heart of the wider 42-acre redevelopment site that is expected to insert over £20 billion into the UK economy once complete, provide 20,000 new jobs and contribute to the creation of a new Zone 1 London Underground Station that will be serviced by the Northern Line Extension. There is also a successful wide-ranging community engagement strategy in place that ensures that local people and the wider London community also benefit from this transformational project.
