Get ready for an exciting new festival for London!
From 13th – 15th September 2024, Battersea Power Station will offer its visitors the opportunity to experience the wonders of South East Asian culture first hand at the upcoming ‘celebrASIA’ festival.
FULL SCHEDULE:
A number of striking decorations will transport festival-goers from London to the South East Asian subcontinent; from elephant sculptures to a traditional kite showcase across Electric Boulevard, as well as hundreds of lanterns hanging under Grosvenor Bridge and immersive Beca and Tuk Tuk installations in Turbine Hall A.
Foodies are in for a treat as renowned South East Asian chefs and street food vendors will serve up the finest traditional cuisine from the region. Think mouth-watering curries, noodle bowls, satays, and more with the iconic Battersea Power Station as the backdrop!
Visitors can explore the Artisan Market in Turbine Hall B, where an array of sauces, spices, snacks, jewellery, homewares, and accessories from across South East Asia will be on offer. There will also be the opportunity to get creative at the Arts and Crafts Workshop in Turbine Hall A, with bookable sessions where you can learn to craft personalised pewter dishes from master craftsmen at Royal Selangor’s School of Hard Knocks, make lanterns for the Mid Autumn Festival, and create Batik art pieces.
Children can enjoy free face painting, art activities, and craft sessions like shadow puppet and lantern making, ketupat weaving, and Sarimanok paper layering. Plus, the interactive ‘Grand Tour’ will take young explorers on a journey through South East Asia with fun quizzes and souvenir passports.
Catch live DJ sets from Half East Records, alongside traditional dances, orchestras, and pop-up performances, including a show by the Battersea Power Station Community Choir. And finally, visitors will be able to participate in the ASEAN Games in Malaysia Square and try traditional childhood games from different South East Asian countries.
On Sunday 15th September, at The Cinema in the Power Station there will be a special screening of the 2015 Thai drama, Cemetery of Splendour, written and produced by Apichatpong Weerasethakul – you can buy tickets here.
